A common complaint is a pet’s bad breath. This is usually due to dental problems such as the build-up of plaque or tartar. If untreated this can lead to gum disease (gingivitis) and teeth root abscesses.
Under a general anaesthetic we are able to scale and polish teeth using ultrasound equipment. As with humans regular toothbrushing is the best way to prevent dental disease. Brushes and special flavoured enzyme toothpaste for dogs and cats are available at reception, and our nurses can demonstrate the best techniques for brushing your pet’s teeth.
Brushing can be challenging and is not always possible so we can also advise on diets and chews which will help maintain dental health.
