There is one method of pet identification, which is permanent, invisible and tamperproof - the microchip implant. A tiny microchip, containing your pet’s unique code, is implanted under the skin at the back of the neck by a simple injection, no anaesthetic or sedation is required. Then if your pet ever strays, escapes or is stolen and is found by the police, dog wardens or taken to any veterinary surgery, it will be scanned. This will immediately identify you as the owner, ensuring the safe return of your pet in the quickest time possible.
The microchip details are stored in a central database, so your animal can be identified anywhere in Great Britain. Also, with the Pet Travel Scheme, the microchips are recognised throughout Europe, and form part of the travel regulations.
